In a shocking incident from Mumbai, a 25-year-old homemaker has been arrested for allegedly slashing the private parts of a male relative after he refused her proposal of marriage. The Vakola police tracked the accused to Ghaziabad following the violent episode that unfolded in the early hours of New Year's Day in Santacruz East.
The New Year's Day Attack
The victim, a 44-year-old autorickshaw driver who is the brother of the accused woman's sister-in-law, had gone to her Santacruz East home after she invited him to celebrate the New Year. According to police, the woman served him sweets and water. Subsequently, she got physically intimate with him before suddenly attacking his private parts with a sharp object.
The injured man managed to rush out of the house and, with the help of a friend and his son, reached V N Desai Hospital. He was later transferred to Sion Hospital where he underwent surgery on January 1 itself.
A Seven-Year Relationship and Conflicting Claims
Police investigations revealed that the victim and the accused had been involved in a relationship for the past seven years, a fact known to her husband. However, their accounts of the motive behind the attack differ sharply.
The victim stated that on December 24, the woman had threatened him after he refused to marry her, citing his own existing marriage. The accused, however, claimed she was driven to the extreme step because the victim had been blackmailing her into maintaining physical relations.
The accused had recently returned from Bihar on December 19. After the attack, she fled her home with her two sons, aged five and seven, and called her husband. Together, they boarded a train to Ghaziabad, where she was eventually tracked down to her sister's home.
Arrest and Legal Charges
The Vakola police compelled the woman to return to Mumbai and formally arrested her on Monday. She was produced before a court on Tuesday and remanded to custody.
Initially, the case was registered under sections for causing hurt with dangerous weapons and criminal intimidation. After her arrest, the more serious charge of attempt to murder under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 109 was added to the First Information Report (FIR).
A police officer stated that the accused's intention appeared to be to kill the victim. She had narrated the entire incident to her husband after fleeing the scene. The case continues to be under investigation by the Vakola police.
