Mumbai man steals Rs 10 lakh jewellery in fake 'black magic' ritual
Mumbai: FIR for Rs 10L jewellery theft in fake ritual

Mumbai police have taken legal action against a man accused of orchestrating an elaborate scam to steal gold jewellery valued at a staggering Rs 10 lakh from a woman. The crime was committed under the guise of performing special rituals to remove so-called 'black magic' spells.

The Elaborate Deception

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by the authorities, the accused, identified as Ramchandra Sutar, first approached the complainant. He convinced her that a malevolent black magic spell had been cast upon her family, causing misfortune. Sutar presented himself as a solution, claiming he could perform specific pujas or rituals to counter the negative effects and restore well-being.

Gaining the woman's trust, Sutar visited her residence in October. On this first visit, he conducted a ritual after charging a substantial amount of money. The plot thickened during his subsequent visit. He then instructed the woman to gather all her gold jewellery, place it inside a steel container, and seal it. He assured her that this act was crucial for improving her family's fortunes and gave a strict warning: she was not to open the container until he instructed her to do so.

The Shocking Discovery

The victim followed his instructions faithfully, believing in the process. However, the need to access her jewellery for an upcoming family wedding forced her to open the container. To her utter shock and horror, she found the steel box completely empty. The jewellery, worth approximately Rs 10 lakh, had vanished.

Legal Repercussions and Police Action

Realising she had been swindled, the woman immediately approached the police. After a preliminary investigation, the Mumbai police registered a formal FIR against Ramchandra Sutar based on her complaint. The case highlights a recurring modus operandi where fraudsters exploit people's fears and superstitions to commit serious financial crimes.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for the public to be extremely cautious of individuals offering supernatural solutions for personal or family problems, especially those demanding access to valuables or large sums of money. Police investigations into the matter are currently ongoing.
