Decorated Hawk Force Officer Makes Supreme Sacrifice in Maoist Encounter
In a tragic development for India's security forces, Inspector Ashish Sharma of Madhya Pradesh's elite Hawk Force was killed during a fierce gun battle with heavily armed Maoists on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred near the tri-junction where Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra borders meet, marking a significant loss for the specialized anti-Naxal unit.
The Fatal Operation
According to police officials, the confrontation took place around 8:30 am during a coordinated operation involving police forces from three states. Inspector Sharma was leading his team against a large Maoist group deep inside Chhattisgarh territory when he sustained critical bullet wounds to his thigh and abdomen.
Despite immediate medical attention and arrangements to airlift him to a super-specialty hospital, the officer succumbed to his injuries at the Dongargarh Community Health Centre in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. Authorities have confirmed that there were casualties on the Maoist side as well, though exact numbers remain undisclosed as the operation continues in the dense forest region.
A Distinguished Career Cut Short
Inspector Ashish Sharma was recognized as one of the brightest officers in the Hawk Force, known for his exceptional leadership in high-risk operations. His distinguished service record included two gallantry medals for extraordinary courage and dedication to duty.
Earlier this year, Sharma earned an out-of-turn promotion following a successful mission that resulted in the neutralization of three hardcore women Maoist operatives in the Raunda forests. His colleagues described him as an officer who consistently volunteered for the most challenging assignments and inspired his team with his fearless approach to combating left-wing extremism.
Official Condolences and Legacy
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed profound grief over the officer's death, stating that Sharma "laid down his life while valiantly fighting Naxal insurgents in the forests of Rajnandgaon."
In his official statement, the Chief Minister emphasized that "His unparalleled bravery and supreme sacrifice in the national campaign to eradicate Naxalism will forever be remembered and honoured." Yadav extended heartfelt condolences to Sharma's family and assured that the entire state stands with them during this difficult time.
The Chief Minister further committed to continuing the fight against Naxalism, vowing that security forces would honor Inspector Sharma's legacy by "resolutely pursuing peace and security for our people."
This tragic incident comes shortly after the death of top-ranking Maoist leader Madvi Hidma, who was killed in an encounter in Andhra Pradesh. These developments represent significant blows to the Naxalite movement and align with the Central government's objective of eradicating left-wing extremism by next year.
