Tragic Fire in Supaul Claims Lives of Mother and Daughter, Investigation Underway
A devastating fire broke out in a house at Gajna Chowk under the Sadar police station area of Supaul district, Bihar, early on Monday, resulting in the tragic deaths of a 26-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter. The victims, identified as Neelam Devi and her daughter Anjali Kumari, were burned alive while sleeping inside the home of Pramod Paswan.

The blaze spread rapidly, engulfing three to four nearby homes and causing widespread panic in the local area. Upon noticing the fire, residents immediately called the fire brigade, which arrived at the scene and worked diligently to bring the flames under control after significant effort. However, by the time the fire was extinguished, substantial damage had already occurred to the properties involved.
When emergency responders searched through the debris, they recovered the charred bodies of Neelam Devi and Anjali Kumari, who had been asleep inside the house at the time of the incident. The discovery sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the severity of the tragedy.
Background of the Victims
Neelam Devi, originally from Aran Bishanpur village in Saharsa district, was the wife of Pintu Yadav. According to family members, the couple had a love marriage approximately five years ago. Neelam had recently come to stay at her parental home located at Gajna Chowk in Supaul, where the fatal fire occurred. Her young daughter, Anjali Kumari, was with her during this visit, adding to the heartbreak of the situation.
Police Investigation and Official Statements
Upon receiving information about the fire, officers from the Sadar police station promptly reached the spot to assist with the emergency response and initiate an investigation. The two bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital in Supaul for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
In a statement, Sadar Station House Officer Ramsevak Rawat emphasized that the police are taking the matter seriously and investigating all possible angles to ascertain the cause of the fire. "The cause of the fire is yet to be established," said SHO Rawat. "Police are conducting a thorough probe, and no application has been received from the family so far regarding the incident." After the post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to the grieving family for last rites.
The incident has left the local community in mourning, with authorities urging residents to exercise caution and adhere to fire safety protocols.
