Mohali Police Intensifies Security Ahead of New Year After Deadly Goa Fire
Mohali Police Ramps Up New Year Security After Goa Tragedy

Ahead of the New Year celebrations, Mohali police have significantly heightened security measures across the district. This proactive move comes in the wake of recent tragic incidents, including a deadly club fire in Goa that resulted in the loss of 24 lives, prompting authorities to prevent any untoward events.

Intensive Checks and Security Drills

Police teams have now intensified inspections at various public venues, including hotels, clubs, and other crowded spaces. The focus of these checks is to ensure strict compliance with fire safety regulations, the functionality of emergency exits, and the implementation of proper crowd management plans.

In a key demonstration of preparedness, a comprehensive security drill was conducted on Friday at the popular Mohali Walk in Sector 8. This exercise was carried out in coordination with the bomb disposal squad to rigorously test evacuation procedures and existing security protocols.

High Alert and Public Reassurance

DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal stated that this drill was executed under the directions of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans as part of a broader strategy to fortify festive security. He emphasized that the police force remains on high alert and is vigilantly monitoring suspicious activities and objects.

To bolster public confidence and deter anti-social elements, the police also organized a visible flag march through crucial areas of the city. The march commenced from Gurudwara Shri Amb Sahib and covered major points including Turn 11, Airport Road, Gurudwara Shri Singh Chhaidon, Kumbha Chowk, and Turn 7 before concluding at the starting point. Station House Officers (SHOs) and personnel from multiple police stations actively participated in this show of strength.

Call for Responsible Celebrations

Officials have made a strong appeal to residents to celebrate the New Year responsibly and to extend full cooperation to the authorities. They have assured the public that all necessary arrangements are firmly in place to ensure a safe and peaceful transition into the New Year. The combined efforts of drills, heightened surveillance, and visible policing aim to create a secure environment for all.
