Mohali Hit-and-Run: Scooter Rider Killed by Speeding Thar; Driver Escapes
A tragic road accident in Mohali claimed the life of a young man on Monday, when a speeding Thar collided with his scooter in the Sohana police station area. The accused driver fled the scene immediately and remains at large, sparking a police manhunt.
Victim Identified as Rohit from Kharar
The deceased has been identified as Rohit, a resident of Kharar who was employed with a private company. According to police reports, the incident occurred as Rohit was on his way to work. He was traveling on the road connecting Sector 82 to Lakhanour village when the speeding Thar rammed into his scooter with immense force.
Severe Impact and Fatal Injuries
The collision was so powerful that it threw Rohit several metres away from the point of impact. He sustained critical head injuries and multiple fractures, succumbing to his injuries on the spot before any medical assistance could be provided. Eyewitnesses described the crash as loud and forceful, prompting locals to rush to the scene, but they found Rohit already deceased.
Family's Anguish and Police Complaint
Rohit's brother, Gaurav Sood, filed a complaint with the police after receiving a distressing call from an unknown person using Rohit's phone, informing him about the accident. Upon reaching the location, Gaurav discovered Rohit lying near his severely damaged scooter in front of a roadside petrol pump, bearing grievous injuries. The family is devastated by the sudden loss, and the incident has triggered widespread grief in the local community.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the complaint, the Sohana police have registered a case against the unidentified Thar driver. Authorities are actively working to trace the accused, with efforts focused on examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to establish the identity of the vehicle and its driver. Police officials have assured that the accused will be arrested soon, emphasizing their commitment to bringing the perpetrator to justice.
