Model files Rs 35 lakh fraud case against neighbour in Mumbai

A Mumbai-based model has filed a formal police complaint against a neighbour from Malad, alleging he systematically defrauded her of a staggering sum of Rs 35 lakh. The Bangur Nagar Police have registered the case and are conducting a detailed investigation into the serious accusations.

From Rescue to Exploitation: The Neighbour's Alleged Scheme

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident's roots trace back to the model's personal life. She was previously in an intimate relationship with a merchant navy officer, who ended the relationship after his marriage. This event left the model deeply distressed, and in 2023, she allegedly attempted to take her own life.

It was during this critical moment that a female neighbour intervened, barging into her house and rescuing her. However, what followed was a shocking turn of events. The neighbour's husband, now the accused, stepped in, offering support. He reportedly promised to help her lodge a police complaint against her former boyfriend and pursue the matter legally in court. For this assistance, he demanded an initial payment of Rs 10 lakh.

The Escalating Demands and Financial Drain

The model stated that her brother paid the accused the demanded Rs 10 lakh in the office of their residential society. Unsatisfied, the accused soon asked for an additional Rs 5 lakh. In May 2023, a case of rape was officially lodged against the model's ex-boyfriend based on her complaint. The accused neighbour frequently accompanied her to the police station and court hearings, positioning himself as her sole guide in the legal process.

Later, he approached her with a new proposition, asking for money to invest in his business ventures. Trusting him, the model paid him substantial amounts. However, she never received any returns on these purported investments. When she finally gathered the courage to demand her money back, the situation turned threatening.

The Final Straw and Police Intervention

In September 2025, when the model pressed for the return of her funds, the accused allegedly threatened her. This intimidation became the final trigger for her to approach the authorities. She has now lodged a formal complaint with the Bangur Nagar Police, detailing the entire sequence of events and the financial exploitation that followed her vulnerable state.

The police are probing all angles of the case, including the initial financial transactions, the business investment claims, and the alleged threats. The case highlights a disturbing pattern of exploitation where trust was built during a crisis only to be leveraged for significant financial gain.
