Migrant Worker Killed in Musiri Car-Motorcycle Crash

A tragic road accident near Musiri has claimed the life of a migrant worker from Bihar and left his colleague seriously injured. The incident, involving a reckless car driver, occurred last week and has led to an arrest under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Details of the Fatal Collision

The accident took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 31. Two friends, P Aravind Kumar (34) and S Janardansha (40), were traveling on a motorcycle from Musiri towards Thathaiyangarpet. Both men hailed from the East Champaran district in Bihar and were employed at a poultry farm in Serukudi near Musiri.

As they navigated past the Thathaiyangarpet roundabout, their lives were suddenly upended. A car, being driven recklessly on the wrong side of the road, slammed into their motorcycle head-on. The car was operated by R Srinivasan (50), a resident of Karukudi.

Aftermath and Legal Action

Following the violent collision, both injured men were rushed to the Government Hospital in Trichy for urgent medical care. Despite treatment, Aravind Kumar's injuries proved fatal. He succumbed in the early hours of Friday, January 2.

His colleague, Janardansha, survived and continues to receive treatment for his injuries. In response to the tragedy, the Musiri police swiftly registered a case based on a complaint filed by A Saravanan, the accountant at the poultry farm where the victims worked.

Driver Arrested Under New BNS Charges

The police have taken decisive legal action against the accused driver. R Srinivasan has been arrested and charged under sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These sections pertain to rash and negligent driving that results in death.

This case highlights the severe consequences of reckless driving on Indian roads, particularly for vulnerable road users like motorcycle riders. It also marks one of the early applications of the new BNS in a fatal traffic incident in the region.
