A 44-year-old painter was murdered over an unpaid loan of Rs 200 in Budaun's Kabulpura locality late Sunday night. According to police, two labourers allegedly cornered the victim to demand the remaining amount from a Rs 500 loan, and one of them struck him near the neck with a heavy padlock tied to an iron chain.
Details of the Incident
The deceased was identified as Mohd Shahid. Police revealed that Shahid had borrowed Rs 500 from local residents Mohd Naeem and Wasif Khan, both labourers, and had already repaid Rs 300. Around 10:30 pm on Sunday, the two suspects allegedly stopped Shahid and demanded the remaining Rs 200, which led to a heated argument.
An eyewitness informed police that as the confrontation escalated, Naeem allegedly attacked Shahid with a heavy padlock attached to an iron chain. The blow struck near the base of Shahid's neck, causing him to collapse with critical injuries. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after the assault.
Arrests and Investigation
Both suspects fled the scene before police arrived. Police rushed Shahid to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was later sent for post-mortem. Two accused have been arrested and sent to jail.
This tragic incident highlights the severe consequences of minor disputes over small sums of money. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
