Meerut: Auto driver kills passenger over loud music

A horrific incident of road rage turned fatal in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, where an argument over loud music playing inside an auto-rickshaw ended in a passenger's death. The dispute escalated to a violent attack, resulting in the passenger being stabbed multiple times by the auto driver.

Argument Over Music Escalates to Violence

The tragic event unfolded on a Saturday night in the Lisari Gate police station area. According to police reports, the victim, identified as Vikas, a 22-year-old resident of Shastri Nagar, hired an auto-rickshaw. An argument soon erupted between Vikas and the auto driver, Sonu, aged 25, because Vikas was playing music on his mobile phone at a high volume inside the vehicle.

What began as a verbal altercation quickly spiraled out of control. Enraged by the dispute, the auto driver, Sonu, allegedly stopped the vehicle and attacked Vikas with a sharp weapon. Vikas sustained critical stab wounds during the assault. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead by the attending doctors, succumbing to his injuries.

Police Investigation and Manhunt Launched

Following the murder, the auto driver fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle. The Lisari Gate police have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation. Law enforcement officials are actively searching for the accused, Sonu, who remains at large.

Authorities have seized the auto-rickshaw used in the crime as part of their evidence collection. The police are analyzing the scene and gathering statements to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this extreme act of violence over a seemingly trivial issue.

A Broader Pattern of Road Rage Incidents

This incident highlights a disturbing trend of conflicts on Indian roads escalating to fatal violence. Disputes between drivers, passengers, and other commuters often stem from minor irritations but can have deadly consequences. The Meerut stabbing serves as a grim reminder of the importance of anger management and conflict de-escalation in public spaces.

The local community has been left in shock by the brutality of the crime. Such incidents raise serious concerns about public safety and the need for stricter enforcement and awareness to prevent road rage from turning deadly. The police are urging anyone with information about the fleeing auto driver to come forward and assist in the investigation.
