Mau Police Crack Down on Rs 26 Lakh Dialysis Machine Heist in Varanasi

In a significant breakthrough, the Dakshin Tola police station in Mau district has successfully apprehended two notorious thieves involved in a high-value robbery at Azmi Hospital located in Hakikatpura, Varanasi. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involved the theft of four dialysis machines valued at approximately Rs 26 lakh, with the alleged assistance of a hospital technician.

Police Operation and Arrest Details

Mau ASP Anoop Kumar provided detailed insights into the operation that led to the arrests. Acting on a crucial tip-off, a specialized police team was swiftly assembled. This team included officers Sumit Gautam, Vishesh Yadav, Ansh, Pandit, and Babua, who strategically cordoned off the Matlupur flyover area for surveillance and checking.

During the operation, a pickup van was observed making a sudden turn onto the service road upon spotting the police presence. In their attempt to flee, the vehicle became stuck, allowing alert police personnel to swiftly apprehend the two accused individuals. The arrested suspects have been identified as Amarnath Dixit and Rajkumar, both residents of Gomtinagar in Lucknow.

Interrogation Revelations and Motive

Upon interrogation, the accused revealed a complex backstory leading to the crime. They disclosed that they were operating several hospitals in the state capital of Lucknow. However, after taking out loans and failing to repay them, they faced a severe financial crisis, creating an urgent need for money.

It was during this period that Vishesh Yadav, a technician employed at Azmi Hospital, came into contact with them. Yadav allegedly informed them that dialysis machines could be easily stolen, presenting an opportunity to alleviate their financial woes. This revelation set the stage for the planned heist.

Execution of the Heist and Recovery

The plan was executed on the night of January 23, with Dixit and his associates, including Sumit Gautam, Vishesh Yadav, Ansh, Pandit, Babua, and others, carrying out the theft. In a bold move, they reportedly took the hospital technician 'hostage' to facilitate the robbery.

Following the theft, the stolen dialysis machines, along with the technician, were transported to Lucknow in a pickup van bearing the registration number UP32KN2133. Fearing imminent arrest, the group later left Lucknow for Ghazipur with the intention of selling the high-value medical equipment.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of the police, all four dialysis machines were successfully recovered. Additionally, the pickup van used in the crime, Rs 4,000 in cash, and two mobile phones were seized from the accused. This recovery marks a significant victory for law enforcement in combating organized theft in the region.

The case highlights the growing challenges of financial crimes linked to the healthcare sector and underscores the importance of robust police vigilance in safeguarding medical facilities and equipment.
