In a significant recognition of exemplary service, two senior police officials serving in Mangaluru have been selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service during the Republic Day celebrations. The distinguished officers are IGP Western Range Amit Singh and Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement (DCRE) SP Simon CA.

IGP Amit Singh: A Career Marked by Excellence and Investigation Prowess

Amit Singh, a 2007-batch officer originally from Bihar, has built an impressive policing career across Karnataka. His journey began with crucial postings as assistant superintendent of police in Mangaluru and Puttur from 2009 to 2011. Following this foundational period, he served as Superintendent of Police in multiple districts:

  • Hassan (2011–2013)
  • Kalaburagi (2013–2016)
  • Bengaluru Rural (2016–2018)
  • Mysuru (2018–2019)

From 2019 to 2023, Singh was on deputation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), where he contributed to national security efforts. His investigative excellence has been previously recognized with the Union Medal for Excellence in Investigation in 2021 and the chief minister's Medal in 2025.

DCRE SP Simon CA: The Veteran Investigator Behind Major Probes

Simon CA, currently serving as SP in the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, is renowned for his involvement in numerous Special Investigation Teams (SIT) constituted by the government to handle sensational cases. His professional journey is particularly noteworthy:

Beginning his career as a detective sub-inspector with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Simon initially practiced as an advocate in Mangaluru before joining the police force. Through dedicated service, he rose through various ranks to reach his current position.

Over the years, Simon has served in sensitive investigative wings including the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the Lokayukta. His investigative portfolio includes some of Karnataka's most high-profile and complex cases:
