Mangaluru Police Nab Woman and Accomplice in Rs 5 Lakh Gold Theft Case

In a significant breakthrough, Mangaluru police have arrested a woman and her male associate for allegedly stealing gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 5 lakh from a residential property in Sullia. The swift police action led to the recovery of the stolen ornaments, bringing relief to the victimized family.

Financial Dispute Precedes Theft Incident

According to official reports, the incident stems from a financial transaction between the victim's family and the primary accused. The complainant, Punyashree, a 20-year-old resident of Sullia Kasaba, stated that her father had extended a loan of around Rs 6 lakh to the accused woman, identified as Shruti alias Vishmitha, aged 37.

When the family pressed for repayment of the substantial amount, Shruti reportedly agreed and visited their residence on April 7. Later that same day, after family members temporarily left their home and returned in the evening, they noticed something amiss.

Discovery of Missing Valuables

The family discovered the cupboard key lying out of its usual place, prompting immediate concern. Upon thorough inspection, they were shocked to find that gold ornaments weighing approximately 62.5 grams, with an estimated market value of Rs 5 lakh, had vanished from their premises.

Given that Shruti had been the only visitor to the house earlier that day, suspicion naturally fell upon her. The family promptly filed a formal complaint at the Sullia police station, initiating a criminal investigation.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Based on the detailed complaint, authorities registered a case under Sections 331(3) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Sullia police launched a comprehensive investigation that quickly yielded results.

During their probe, law enforcement officers successfully apprehended both the primary accused, Shruti, and her alleged accomplice, Pradeep, who is believed to have assisted in executing the theft. Following intensive interrogation of the detained individuals, police managed to recover the stolen gold jewellery in its entirety.

Separate High-Value Burglary in Ullal Taluk

In an unrelated but similarly concerning development, unidentified burglars targeted an apartment in Ullal taluk, making off with valuables worth over Rs 10.7 lakh. The theft occurred between the night of March 18 and the morning of April 9 at an 11th-floor apartment in a residential complex near KS Hegde Medical College in Deralakatte.

According to the complaint filed by Mohammed Hashil Sadiq, the apartment owner, the burglars apparently entered the premises during the occupants' absence and accessed a bedroom cupboard locker. The stolen items include:

  • A 24-gram diamond necklace with matching earrings
  • A 16-gram gold chain
  • An 8-gram gold ring
  • A ladies' Rado watch valued at Rs 2 lakh
  • A platinum ring weighing 8 grams
  • An additional watch worth Rs 3.5 lakh

Police have registered a case based on this complaint and have initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this substantial theft.

Both cases highlight ongoing concerns about property crimes in the region, with police demonstrating effective response capabilities in the Sullia investigation while continuing to pursue leads in the Ullal burglary.
