A 44-year-old man was stabbed to death after he intervened in a fight between his friend and another man in the Adgaon Naka area of Nashik during the early hours of Saturday.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Jaywant Pawar, a resident of Amardham Road in Old Nashik. He was declared brought dead at a private hospital. Based on a complaint filed by his wife, the Adgaon police registered a murder case against the suspect, whose whereabouts remained unknown until Saturday afternoon.
Incident Details
Senior inspector Umesh Patil, citing the complaint, said, 'Pawar, who ran a men's hair salon, had left home around 8:30 PM on Friday, telling his wife he would return shortly. Around 3:30 AM on Saturday, he was riding with his friend Vinod Agle, alias Vastad, near a sweets shop in Adgaon Naka when the accused, who was drinking beer near a closed garage, began abusing Agle.'
The police said the verbal altercation escalated into a physical fight, prompting Pawar and a few others to intervene. 'During the scuffle, the suspect pulled out a knife and tried to attack Pawar. While Pawar managed to dodge the first strike, the second blow landed near his chest, leaving him critically injured,' Patil said.
Pawar collapsed on the spot as the accused continued to threaten bystanders with the knife and abuse them. He then stopped a passing biker, threatened him, and fled the scene on the motorcycle, the police said citing the complaint.
Investigation Underway
The police said the victim and those present were known to each other. Senior inspector Umesh Patil said multiple teams have been deployed to trace the accused, who is from a nearby taluka and lived in Nashik with friends.
