Elderly Man Fatally Shot in Purnia District Over Bamboo Cutting Dispute
In a tragic incident stemming from a long-standing land dispute, a 60-year-old man was shot dead in Purnia district on Sunday. The altercation erupted over the cutting of bamboo on a contested piece of land, escalating into violence that claimed the life of Dinesh Yadav, a resident of Srinagar village under ward number 6.
Details of the Violent Confrontation
According to the deceased's son, Mukesh Kumar, his father was engaged in cutting bamboo from his sister's share of the land when the situation turned violent. "My father was cutting bamboo from his sister's share of land. Meanwhile, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Devdatt Yadav, Neelam Devi, Sachin, Prabhu and Shambhu Yadav, along with others, arrived at the spot in a car and four motorcycles. They started quarrelling with my father," Mukesh recounted.
The argument quickly intensified, leading to a fatal shooting. Sadar SDPO Jyoti Shankar provided further details, stating, "According to Mukesh's allegation, Devdatt took out a firearm and fired three bullets at Dinesh, killing him on the spot. There was a long-standing land dispute between the two families."

Following the shooting, a large number of villagers gathered at the scene, prompting immediate police action. To control the volatile situation, police personnel along with the Sadar SDPO swiftly reached the location.
