A 42-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by two youngsters at a wedding venue in Doghat town, Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, sparking a police investigation that has led to one arrest and a search for another suspect.

Victim Identified as Vivek, Husband of Former Village Head

According to Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Rai, the deceased was identified as Vivek, also known as Vicky, a resident of Shamli. He was the husband of the former village head, Babli. The couple had attended the wedding in Doghat, where the tragic event unfolded.

Details of the Shooting Incident

The shooting took place around 1 am in the parking area of a farmhouse at the wedding venue. Police reported that two youngsters suddenly opened fire at Vivek, causing serious injuries that led to his death on the spot. The farmhouse owner, Sunil Panwar, immediately informed the police about the incident.

Arrest and Escape of Suspects

One of the assailants was caught by people present at the venue while attempting to flee and was handed over to the police. However, the other accused managed to escape. Additional Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar stated that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspect.

Motive Linked to Old Dispute

Preliminary inquiries by the police revealed that the attack was allegedly carried out due to an old dispute. The assailants are also residents of the victim's village, adding a layer of local conflict to the case. Acting on Babli's complaint, a case is being registered against four persons in connection with the murder.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
