Man Arrested for Killing Wife, Shooting Her Lover in Kandhamal Village
A 36-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for a brutal domestic violence incident in Odisha's Kandhamal district, where he allegedly beat his wife to death and shot her suspected lover. The tragic event unfolded in Katapanga village, highlighting severe consequences of personal disputes.

The accused, identified as Biranchi Behera, a daily labourer, reportedly opened fire after seeing his wife, Lili Behera (33), with another man at Bagaramunda, approximately 1 kilometer from their home. In a fit of rage, he fired at them, injuring the man while his wife managed to escape initially.
However, Biranchi returned home later and beat his wife to death. The injured man was admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Phulbani, where his condition is reported as stable. Police have seized the country-made gun used in the crime.
Police Investigation Findings
Sanjit Behera, the Inspector-in-Charge of Gochhapada, stated that preliminary inquiries revealed the woman had been involved in an illicit affair with the injured man for several years. The accused had previously warned her about this relationship, indicating ongoing tensions.
Initially, police suspected the wife might have been shot as well, but further investigation confirmed she was beaten to death. The deceased, Lili Behera, was a mother of two children, adding to the tragedy of the situation.
