A horrific incident of domestic violence stemming from alcohol addiction has shaken the Routarapara village in Odisha's Jajpur district. A 28-year-old tribal man allegedly murdered his young wife with an axe after she refused to give him money to buy liquor.
The Fatal Evening: A Demand for Money Turns Deadly
The tragedy unfolded on Thursday evening in Routarapara. According to police reports, Krushna Bindhani, 28, who was already under the influence of alcohol, approached his wife, Gurubari, 24. Gurubari had recently received some money from selling paddy. Bindhani demanded Rs 500 from her, presumably to purchase more alcohol.
When Gurubari refused to hand over the hard-earned money, a violent argument ensued. In a fit of uncontrollable rage, the inebriated Bindhani is alleged to have grabbed an axe and attacked his wife. The brutal assault left Gurubari with grievous injuries.
Villagers' Response and Police Action
Hearing the commotion, alarmed villagers rushed to the scene. They immediately took the critically injured Gurubari to the Danagadi Community Health Centre for emergency medical treatment. However, the doctors at the centre could do little to save her life and pronounced her dead upon examination.
The Jajpur Road police were promptly informed and took swift action. Ashis Kumar Sahoo, the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Jajpur Road police station, confirmed the arrest of the accused. "We have arrested Krushna and have sent the body for autopsy," stated IIC Sahoo, outlining the immediate steps taken by the authorities.
