25-Year-Old Man Beaten to Death in Delhi on Suspicion of Theft
Man killed in South Extension over theft suspicion

A tragic incident unfolded in South Delhi's upscale South Extension Part-II area, where a 25-year-old man lost his life after being brutally assaulted by a group of people who suspected him of theft. The fatal beating occurred on Thursday night, leading to a murder investigation by the Delhi Police.

Body Discovered at Construction Site

Police officials received critical information at around 10:30 am on Friday about a body lying near the boundary wall of an under-construction site. Upon reaching the spot in the South Extension locality, officers discovered the body of a young man bearing multiple visible injuries. The scene prompted an immediate forensic response.

A full crime team along with experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were summoned to the location to conduct a detailed examination and collect evidence. The area was cordoned off as investigators began piecing together the sequence of events that led to the gruesome discovery.

Victim Identified, Motive Revealed

The deceased was identified as Gurmeet Singh, who also went by the alias Prince. He was a resident of Andrews Ganj in South Delhi. Preliminary inquiries by the police shed light on the probable cause of the violence.

"Initial investigation suggests that the victim entered the construction site during the night, allegedly with the intent to commit theft. He was caught and subsequently assaulted by the labourers present at the site. He later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the beating," a police officer involved in the case stated.

Five Apprehended, Murder Case Registered

Acting swiftly on the information gathered, the police apprehended five labourers in connection with the death of Gurmeet Singh. Authorities have confirmed that, based on the initial findings, the case is being treated as a murder.

Investigators are now meticulously examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area to establish a clear timeline and confirm the roles of those involved. The footage is expected to be crucial in reconstructing the final moments of the attack.

A Disturbing Pattern of Vigilante Violence

This is not an isolated case of extreme violence triggered by suspicions of theft in the national capital. The incident brings back memories of similar tragic events in recent years.

In 2024, a 24-year-old man was murdered and his friend injured after they were severely thrashed by a group in the Kishangarh area, also on grounds of suspected theft. Prior to that, in 2023, a 26-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in East Delhi's Madhu Vihar under strikingly similar circumstances.

These repeated incidents highlight a dangerous trend of vigilante justice taking precedence over legal procedure, often with fatal consequences. The police continue to warn the public against taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing that such actions lead to serious criminal charges.
