Fatal Highway Accident Near BC Road Claims One Life

A tragic road accident on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway near BC Road in Bantwal resulted in the death of a man on Wednesday. The victim, identified as Godwin Pinto, succumbed to severe injuries after being struck by an SUV that was allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner.

Sequence of the Collision

According to the complaint filed at the Bantwal traffic police station, the incident unfolded when complainant K Kumar was waiting for an autorickshaw in B Mooda village. At that moment, Godwin Pinto was riding his bicycle from the Kusrugudde Cross side towards BC Road along the national highway.

An SUV, driven by Vinod A, approached from the Mangaluru side heading towards BC Road. The vehicle was reportedly moving at high speed and in a negligent fashion. In a devastating turn of events, the SUV swerved to the extreme left of the road and collided directly with Pinto's bicycle.

Secondary Collision and Aftermath

The impact of the initial crash caused the SUV to lose control. It then proceeded to collide with a truck that was coming from the opposite direction towards BC Road. Following this secondary collision, the SUV hit the highway divider before finally coming to a halt.

As a result of the accident, Godwin Pinto sustained severe head injuries and was bleeding heavily. He was immediately rushed to Bantwal Government Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, doctors examined him and declared him dead upon arrival.

Legal Action Taken

In response to this fatal incident, the Bantwal traffic police have registered a formal case. The driver of the SUV, Vinod A, faces charges under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
