A 45-year-old vegetable vendor was arrested in Prayagraj for allegedly murdering his 20-year-old son, Priyanshu, late Friday night. The incident took place in Chaat Wali Gali under the Kareli police station limits. Police said the accused, Dinesh Chandra Jaiswal alias Pappu, suspected his wife of infidelity and believed his son was involved with her.
According to police, the family had dinner and was sleeping on the rooftop when the accused attacked Priyanshu with a juicer handle. Alerted by screams, the victim's mother and two younger brothers rushed downstairs to find Priyanshu lying in a pool of blood, with the accused standing nearby holding the blood-stained object. The accused then fled after threatening family members.
Police revealed that the accused was an alcoholic and had long harbored suspicions about his wife's character, often accusing her of illicit relationships. On the night of the incident, the couple allegedly argued over the same issue before the attack.
Senior police officers, including DCP City Manish Kumar Shandilya, along with forensic teams, inspected the scene. DCP Shandilya stated, "It has been reported that the accused had a suspicion that his son had an illicit relation with mother because of which he killed him."
An FIR has been registered based on a written complaint, and further legal proceedings are underway.
