A 32-year-old man was discovered dead in a suspected suicide at his in-laws' residence in southeast Delhi on Sunday. The incident has cast a pall over the Gautampuri area of Badarpur, with police pointing to ongoing marital discord as a likely cause.
Domestic Dispute Call Leads to Tragic Discovery
The police action began when a PCR call was received around 9 am on Sunday. The call reported a domestic dispute at the house. A police team was immediately dispatched to the location in the Badarpur area.
The deceased has been identified as Ajab Singh, a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. He had travelled to Delhi with the aim of convincing his wife to return home with him, as the couple was experiencing marital problems.
Locked Room and a Grim Outcome
According to the police account, Singh's plea was refused by his wife's family. Following this rejection, he retreated and locked himself inside a room on the first floor of the house.
"When police reached the house, the door of the room was found locked from the inside," an officer stated. The door had to be broken open. Inside, the team found Singh hanging from a ceiling fan.
Preliminary investigations suggest Singh was under significant mental stress due to the marital discord. Officers confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.
Police Investigation and Family Statements
Senior police officials stated that no foul play is suspected at this initial stage. "The exact circumstances that led to the extreme step will be ascertained after completion of the inquest proceedings and post-mortem examination," a police officer explained.
Family members present at the house, including Singh's father, have been questioned. They told the police they did not suspect any foul play in the death. Their official statements have been recorded by the investigating team.
The body has been sent to the AIIMS mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The inquest proceedings are ongoing to determine the full sequence of events leading to the tragedy.
