A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday in Noida's Sector 22 area, where a 35-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman jumped from the terrace of a three-storey house. The man died on the spot, while the woman sustained critical injuries.
Incident Details
The incident took place in Choura Raghunathpur village around 3:45 am. The deceased has been identified as Puneet Chauhan, a resident of Uldepur village in Meerut, who had come to Noida last week in search of work. The injured woman, Vidya Das, is a native of Rasoolpur Nawada village in Noida and is currently undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.
According to a senior officer at Sector 24 police station, preliminary investigation suggests the two reached the terrace of a three-storey house owned by Gajraj Singh shortly before the incident. Around 4 am, Singh's son Monu noticed movement on the terrace and went to check. Moments later, the man and woman allegedly jumped off the roof. While Chauhan fell directly onto the road, Das reportedly struck electric wires before hitting the ground.
Investigation Underway
During the initial inquiry, police found that the woman had been missing from her home for the past two days. Investigators suspect she came to meet Chauhan, who may have been staying near the house. The two might have had an argument, following which they reached the terrace, possibly through adjoining rooftops, and jumped in a fit of anger.
Local residents rushed to the spot and informed the police. A team from Sector 24 police station arrived at the scene and rushed both individuals to the district hospital. Police are examining all angles, including the possibility of a dispute. Statements of family members and the house owner's family are being recorded. A forensic team has also been called to collect evidence from the scene. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the incident.
