A tragic late-night accident on Liliya Road in Amreli town has claimed the life of a 38-year-old man and left two others, including his wife, injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the motorcycle the couple was riding fell into a deep pit dug for an under-construction bridge.
Details of the Fatal Mishap
The deceased has been identified as Asif Selot, a resident of Amreli who ran a tea stall. He was riding the motorcycle with his wife, Anjum. The couple was returning from a visit to a shrine near Lalavadar along with other family members. According to the police, Selot failed to notice the diversion signage near the bridge construction site, which led to the motorcycle plunging directly into the excavated pit.
Chaotic Rescue Attempt and Further Injuries
Selot's brother, Dilavar, was following them on another two-wheeler with his wife and daughter. Upon seeing the accident, they immediately rushed to help. In the ensuing chaos and rescue attempt, Dilavar's young daughter slipped and also fell into the same pit, sustaining injuries. Dilavar promptly alerted the fire brigade.
Hospitalization and Death
The fire brigade team arrived at the scene and successfully rescued all three injured individuals from the pit. They were quickly shifted to the Amreli Civil Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite efforts to save him, Asif Selot succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His wife Anjum and his niece, Dilavar's daughter, are currently receiving care for their injuries.
The accident has raised serious concerns about road safety and proper barricading at construction sites, especially on poorly lit roads at night. The local authorities are investigating the incident further.
