A horrific incident of violence in a village near Jaipur has culminated in tragedy, with a man succumbing to severe burn injuries. The attack, which also left a woman fighting for her life, has sent shockwaves through the community and prompted a murder investigation.
A Brutal Attack in a Makeshift Shed
The grim event unfolded on November 29 in Bandolav village under the Dudu police jurisdiction. According to Dudu DSP Deepak Khandelwal, the victims, identified as 40-year-old Kailash Gurjar and 32-year-old Soni Gurjar, were cornered inside a makeshift shed located in the middle of a field. The assailants doused them with petrol and deliberately set them on fire, leading to extensive burns over their bodies.
In a desperate attempt to save himself, Kailash tried to reach a water tank. However, he collapsed moments before villagers, who were alerted by the victims' agonizing cries for help, rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the flames. The two critically injured individuals were first taken to a local community health centre. Given the severity of their condition, they were later referred to the advanced SMS Hospital in Jaipur for specialized treatment.
Death and a Fight for Survival
Kailash Gurjar tragically lost his battle for life during treatment on Tuesday. He succumbed to his grievous injuries at SMS Hospital. Meanwhile, Soni Gurjar continues to be in a critical condition, battling for her life in the same medical facility. The police had initially registered a case of attempted murder at the Mokhampura police station, based on statements recorded from the victims at the hospital. With Kailash's death, officials confirmed that fresh charges of murder will be added to the case.
Police revealed that Kailash, in his statement, directly named the two accused as the perpetrators. Acting swiftly on this information, the police have arrested the two main suspects, identified as Ganesh and Birdi Chand. Notably, both arrested individuals are reported to be relatives of the woman, Soni Gurjar.
Investigation Points to Familial Opposition
Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest a possible motive rooted in familial disapproval. Officials indicated that Kailash and Soni may have been in a relationship that was opposed by both their families. Adding complexity to the situation, an official noted that Kailash was a married man, while Soni has been a widow for five years and has children. There had been simmering tension between the families for several years, which allegedly culminated in this extreme act of violence.
The investigation is continuing to uncover all facets of the case. After the necessary legal procedures, Kailash Gurjar's body was handed over to his family following a post-mortem examination. The community remains in a state of shock over the brutal nature of the crime that has shattered the peace of Dudu's Bandolav village.
