In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Maharashtra in connection with the kidnapping of a man from northwest Delhi. The abduction was allegedly carried out to recover money linked to a loan taken by the victim.
Kidnapping Reported After Suspicious PCR Call
The case came to light on December 27 when a PCR call was received about a man being forced into a car by unknown individuals near Panchvati, opposite Azadpur Mandi. The initial caller, a passerby, could not provide further details, prompting police to scan CCTV footage from the area.
The investigation gained momentum on December 29 when a formal complainant approached the police. He reported that his friend, Guddu Saroj, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, had been kidnapped around 7:30 pm on December 27 from the same location. The complainant also alleged that one of the kidnappers, identified as Rajaram from Jalna, Maharashtra, was demanding money for the victim's release.
Multi-State Manhunt and Dramatic Rescue
Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a detailed probe. Analysing footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras, they identified the abductors' car, which bore a Maharashtra registration number. The vehicle was traced to the Jalna district of Maharashtra.
Acting on technical surveillance, a police team travelled to Maharashtra. In a challenging operation during the intervening night of December 31 and January 1, they rescued the victim, Guddu Saroj, from a remote farm area in Panewadi village, Jalna. During the rescue, local residents attempted to obstruct the police, posing a potential risk to the victim's life, but the team managed to safely secure him.
Arrest and Confession Over Loan Dispute
During the operation, the police apprehended the accused, identified as Gyaneshwar Chavhan (40), also a resident of Jalna district, Maharashtra. During interrogation, Chavhan allegedly confessed to the crime. He stated that he committed the kidnapping along with his brother, Rajaram, and another associate named Somnath Udadange from Ambad.
The primary motive, as revealed by the accused, was to recover money related to an outstanding loan taken by the victim. The police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining accused, Rajaram and Somnath Udadange.
