Police in Bicholim have made a swift arrest in a shocking murder case after the body of a woman was discovered inside a parked vehicle. The incident has sent ripples through the local community.
Arrest Made in Gruesome Market Murder
On Saturday, law enforcement officials took into custody Ramesh Teli, a 48-year-old resident of Bordem. He stands accused of the brutal killing of Lakshmi Shirodkar, a 51-year-old daily wage worker. The victim's body was found on Friday morning inside a stationary goods carrier parked close to the bustling Bicholim market.
According to the police investigation, Teli allegedly ended Shirodkar's life by smothering her inside the vehicle. The altercation reportedly escalated from a physical assault. Teli first attacked Laxmi with slaps and struck her with an LED tubelight before ultimately suffocating her. Post-mortem examination confirmed multiple injuries on the deceased's body.
A Life Cut Short: The Victim's Story
The victim, Lakshmi Shirodkar, was a mother of two children. While she originally hailed from Honda in Sattari, she had been living in Dodamarg. A local shopkeeper provided insight into her routine, stating that although she would visit her home occasionally, she spent most of her days staying at the market area itself.
Police revealed that the accused and the victim were known to each other and would often engage in quarrels. Their tumultuous relationship reportedly culminated in a fatal confrontation. Authorities stated that on Thursday, the duo had another fight. Teli is alleged to have murdered Shirodkar on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, subsequently abandoning her body in the goods carrier.
Swift Police Action and Custody
The grim discovery was made by the driver of the vehicle when he returned to it the next morning. Acting promptly on this information, Bicholim police detained Ramesh Teli for questioning within a few hours. During interrogation, Teli subsequently confessed to committing the crime.
Following his admission, the accused was formally arrested and produced before a judicial magistrate. The court has remanded him to police custody for further investigation into the motives and circumstances surrounding this tragic event. The police continue to probe the case to establish a complete sequence of events.
