A 55-year-old man was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday on charges of molesting a young college-going woman at Borivali railway station. Police officials confirmed that the accused, identified as Prashant Chavan, is a pavement dweller who resides near the station.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place at approximately 6:40 am on platform 3 of Borivali railway station. The 21-year-old victim, a resident of Bhayander, was waiting for a Churchgate-bound local train when the accused approached her from behind and touched her inappropriately. The woman immediately raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby commuters and railway personnel, which led to Chavan's swift arrest.
Legal Action
An FIR was registered at the Borivali GRP chowky based on the victim's statement. Police are currently verifying whether the accused has any prior criminal record. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice for the victim.
