Ludhiana: Sword-Wielding Youths Create Midnight Panic in Sanjay Gandhi Colony
In a shocking incident that unfolded on Wednesday night, a group of miscreants created widespread panic in Sanjay Gandhi Colony on Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana, by brandishing swords and pelting stones. The police are actively probing the reason behind this hooliganism and are in the process of registering a formal case into the matter.
Midnight Mayhem Near Gopal Mandir
According to local sources, the trouble began around midnight near Gopal Mandir when abuses were hurled and stone-pelting erupted, sending shockwaves through the residential area. The situation escalated rapidly as approximately six to eight youths arrived on motorcycles, carrying naked swords and other sharp-edged weapons.
Witnesses reported that the miscreants made several rounds in the locality, damaging two motorcycles in the process. The bike-borne youths repeatedly rode through the area, waving swords menacingly, which forced terrified residents to remain indoors, fearing for their safety.
Video Evidence and Police Response
A video that surfaced from the incident shows some of the youths brandishing swords and filming themselves on mobile phones while creating the ruckus, adding a disturbing layer to the event. Local sources described the scene as resembling a street battle, with stone-pelting occurring from both sides of the street.
Residents alleged that although a PCR vehicle reached the area during the night, the miscreants would hide in narrow lanes upon hearing the siren, only to resume their fighting once the police left. This cat-and-mouse game exacerbated the fear among locals.
Formal Complaint and Police Action
On Thursday morning, frightened residents submitted a written complaint to the Division Number 6 police station, demanding action against the accused. SHO of the Division Number 6 police station, Inspector Gagandeep Singh, provided details on the incident.
Inspector Singh stated that the two groups involved live in the same area and the conflict began after a heated argument. He confirmed that the miscreants pelted stones, brandished swords, and damaged two motorcycles. The police are preparing to register a case for the offence of affray, which pertains to public fighting.
Officials have assured that all accused individuals will be identified and arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. The incident has highlighted concerns over public safety and law enforcement responsiveness in the area, with residents calling for stricter measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
