Ludhiana Shopkeeper Fatally Injured in Scooter Collision, Minor Suspect Sought
A tragic road accident in Ludhiana has claimed the life of a 35-year-old shopkeeper, leaving his family devastated and sparking a police manhunt for a juvenile suspect. The incident occurred at New Hargobind Nagar, where a head-on scooter collision resulted in fatal injuries for Jai Karan, locally known as Bablu, who was the sole breadwinner for his wife and three children.
Details of the Fatal Crash
Jai Karan was returning from the Field Gunj wholesale market with his friend, Harmeet Singh, when their scooter collided with another vehicle near a local school. While Harmeet Singh sustained injuries, Karan suffered critical trauma and was declared dead shortly after arrival at the civil hospital. Witnesses and the surviving passenger allege that the offending vehicle was operated by a minor who fled the scene immediately after the impact.
Narinder Singh, the victim's brother-in-law, filed a police complaint indicating that the duo was transporting goods for Karan's Jamalpur-based general store at the time of the accident. In his statement, he emphasized, "Harmeet confirmed the rider was a young boy who escaped the spot," highlighting the urgency of the investigation.
Police Investigation and Procedural Challenges
Ludhiana police have registered an FIR against an unidentified suspect for rash driving and causing death by negligence. Inspector Nardev Singh confirmed that the scooter's registered owner has been traced, but the individual claimed the vehicle had been sold to a third party prior to the accident. Officers are currently verifying sale records to identify the current possessor and the identity of the rider at the time of the crash.
The investigation faces procedural hurdles, complicating efforts to apprehend the suspect. This incident has renewed local concerns about unlicensed minors operating high-speed two-wheelers in congested residential zones, raising questions about enforcement and safety measures.
Family Impact and Community Response
Karan is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son, all of whom were dependent on his modest business income. His death has left the family in financial distress, underscoring the broader societal issue of road safety and accountability. The community has expressed outrage over the alleged involvement of a juvenile, calling for stricter regulations and faster police action to prevent similar tragedies.
As the search continues, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to aid in identifying and locating the suspect. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless driving, particularly by underage individuals in urban areas.
