Ludhiana Police busts gang, arrests 4 in hosiery thefts

In a significant crackdown, the Ludhiana police have successfully dismantled a criminal gang specializing in stealing goods from hosiery manufacturing units and factories across the industrial city. The operation led to the arrest of four accused individuals and the recovery of a substantial cache of stolen material, a vehicle used in the crimes, and a large quantity of illicit liquor.

Coordinated Police Action Leads to Breakthrough

The police action was executed by a team from the Moti Nagar police station, spearheaded by Sub-Inspector Bhupinder Singh, the station house officer. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-4 Jashandeep Singh Gill and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Industrial Area-A) Inderjit Singh Boparai. Officials stated that this coordinated effort was specifically launched to tackle the frequent thefts being reported from various industrial pockets in Ludhiana, a major hub for textile and hosiery production.

The case officially began on December 25 following a complaint filed by Gagandeep Singh, the owner of a hosiery factory located in Amar Nagar, Sherpur. Based on his statement, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Moti Nagar police station against six accused persons. The complaint alleged that the suspects were conducting detailed reconnaissance of hosiery units and factories before executing their thefts, pointing to a planned and organized criminal approach.

Arrests, Recoveries, and a Notorious Offender

Following intensive investigation, the police team apprehended four individuals. The arrested accused have been identified as Tarun Kapoor alias Lucky, Saman Singh, Ramandeep Singh alias Jassu, and Tanveer Malik. Police confirmed that two other accused named in the FIR are currently absconding and efforts are on to trace them.

From the possession of the arrested men, the police recovered 16 bags of stolen hosiery material belonging to the complainant, Gagandeep Singh. Authorities also seized a Mahindra Bolero pickup vehicle that was allegedly used to transport the stolen items from the targeted industrial units. This recovery provided crucial evidence linking the suspects to multiple thefts reported from the area.

In a further twist, during the probe, police recovered 30 cartons of illicit liquor from accused Tarun Kapoor. This stash amounted to a total of 1,440 quarters. Consequently, additional charges under the Excise Act were invoked against him. Police revealed that Tarun Kapoor is a habitual offender, with approximately 24 criminal cases already registered against him across different police stations in Ludhiana, marking him as a particularly notorious figure in local crime.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Steps

Police officials stated that the interrogation of the arrested accused is currently underway. They anticipate more disclosures related to other thefts and the wider network of this gang as the questioning progresses. The investigation team is also working on leads to recover additional stolen property based on information gathered from the accused.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to fully dismantling the gang's operations to prevent similar targeted thefts in Ludhiana's vital industrial areas. The police action sends a strong message to criminal elements targeting the city's manufacturing sector, which has often been vulnerable to such organized theft.
