With New Year festivities approaching, the Lucknow Police has ramped up its security apparatus, placing the city on high alert to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. Proactive measures, including extensive vehicle checks and surveillance, have been initiated across crucial zones to deter unruly behavior and prevent accidents during the celebratory period.
City-Wide Checking Drive Targets Traffic Violations
On Tuesday evening, a major checking operation was rolled out in prominent areas including Gomtinagar, Hazratganj, and Vibhutikhand, as well as all major malls and shopping complexes. Police teams were deployed to intercept vehicles, with a sharp focus on curbing rash driving, drunken driving, and incidents of hooliganism. Particular scrutiny was applied to motorists suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Drivers were subjected to breath analyser tests, and officials took strict action against anyone found flouting traffic and safety regulations. Senior police officials stated that the primary objective of this drive is to act as a deterrent and prevent accidents when footfall on roads and in public spaces sees a significant surge.
Comprehensive Security Sweeps at Public Venues
As part of the security preparedness for upcoming New Year events, police teams, accompanied by dog squads and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), conducted thorough inspections at various sensitive locations. These included cinema halls, metro stations, and major marketplaces.
Notable commercial establishments such as the Summit Building and Cyber Heights were also inspected. Clear safety and security guidelines were issued to the management of these venues. The entire checking operation was supervised by the Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) of all zones, while an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) personally reviewed the ground arrangements with the Hazratganj police team.
A Call for Responsible Celebrations
The police administration has affirmed that these proactive measures will continue in the days leading up to and following New Year's Eve. JCP (Law and Order) Babloo Kumar reiterated the department's commitment to ensuring that the celebrations pass peacefully and without any untoward incidents. He urged citizens to cooperate fully with the police and to celebrate the occasion responsibly, prioritizing safety for themselves and others.
The Lucknow Police's heightened vigil underscores a determined effort to blend visible policing with strategic checks, aiming to create a secure environment for all residents and visitors during the festive season.
