Lucknow Journalist and Family Injured in Early Morning Drunk Driving Crash

A distressing incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday on Lohia Path in Lucknow, leaving a journalist and his family injured after a speeding vehicle rammed into their car. The victims, identified as Amit Jaiswal, his wife, and their six-year-old son, were returning home when the accident occurred, highlighting the dangers of reckless driving.

Details of the Accident and Injuries

The accident took place around 2:17 AM on January 25, when Amit Jaiswal, a resident of Sector-8 in Indiranagar, was driving back with his family. Jaiswal, who works with the leading Hindi daily NBT in Lucknow, briefly stopped on the left side of Lohia Path with the parking lights on to pick up his wife, who is also a journalist with another Hindi daily. Moments after she got into the car and they began moving, a speeding car with registration number CH 01 AQ 8763 crashed into Jaiswal's vehicle.

The impact was severe, dragging Jaiswal's car forward and smashing it into an iron roadside railing, leaving the vehicle badly mangled. All three occupants were trapped inside and had to be pulled out by passersby. Jaiswal escaped with minor injuries, but his wife and son suffered head injuries. The child, in particular, sustained a fracture in the skull and underwent emergency surgery at a trauma centre after initial treatment at a nearby hospital. Police have confirmed that Jaiswal's wife and son are now out of danger, though the family faces a traumatic recovery.

Police Action and Accused Details

In response to the incident, police have detained the accused driver, Gaurav Gupta, and seized his vehicle. Gupta, a furniture businessman from Indiranagar, was reportedly drunk at the time of the accident, adding to the severity of the case. This arrest underscores ongoing concerns about drunk driving and road safety in urban areas like Lucknow.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the perils on city roads, especially during late hours. Authorities are likely to investigate further to ensure justice for the affected family and to promote stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
