A significant National Lok Adalat was conducted on Saturday across the Judicial Court Complexes in Jalandhar, Phillaur, and Nakodar, resulting in the settlement of an impressive 47,452 cases and the awarding of compensation totaling Rs 50.33 crore. This event underscores the efficiency of Lok Adalats in delivering swift justice to citizens.
Comprehensive Case Resolution Across Multiple Locations
The Lok Adalat addressed a wide array of legal matters, including civil cases, matrimonial disputes, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases, compoundable offenses, traffic challans, and pre-litigated cases from entities such as banks, financial institutions, BSNL, PSPCL, and revenue departments. Nirbhow Singh Gill, the District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jalandhar, highlighted that 27 benches were established across the three locations to handle the caseload.
Out of 48,354 cases taken up during the session, 47,452 were successfully disposed of through mutual compromise, demonstrating the effectiveness of this alternative dispute resolution mechanism. The District and Sessions Judge, along with Rahul Kumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of DLSA Jalandhar, personally inspected the benches set up in Jalandhar to ensure smooth proceedings.
Key Features and Benefits of Lok Adalats
Nirbhow Singh Gill emphasized that Lok Adalats provide citizens with expedited access to justice, with decisions being final and not subject to appeal, as they are based on compromises agreed upon by all parties involved. Additionally, a notable benefit for applicants is the refund of court fees, making the process more accessible and cost-effective.
Rahul Kumar, Secretary of DLSA Jalandhar, informed that Lok Adalats are organized periodically to facilitate ongoing legal resolutions. For individuals seeking to submit cases or obtain further information on legal matters, a toll-free number, 15100, is available for assistance. He also announced that the next Lok Adalat is scheduled for May 9, ensuring continued support for dispute resolution.
Community and Legal Participation
The event saw active participation from the legal community, with members of the District Bar Association (DBA) Jalandhar, including the President, Secretary, and other office-bearers, attending the Lok Adalat. Their involvement highlights the collaborative effort between judicial authorities and legal professionals to promote justice and efficiency in the legal system.
This National Lok Adalat not only achieved substantial case settlements and compensation awards but also reinforced the importance of alternative dispute resolution in reducing court backlogs and providing timely justice to the public.
