A sessions court in Jabalpur has sentenced a man and his two sons to life imprisonment for the murder of their neighbour, a dispute that originated from fetching water. The court of Judge MD Rajak also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of the convicts.
Details of the Incident
The prosecution stated that the attack occurred on September 9, 2024, in the Khamariya area of Jabalpur. Pooran Yadav and his brother Akhilesh were feeding cattle at their home when their neighbour Sandeep Yadav arrived wielding an axe. He began hurling abuses, angered by a quarrel earlier that morning over fetching water.
Escalation of Violence
Within minutes, Sandeep's brother Pradeep and their father Jagannath joined him, carrying lathis (wooden sticks). While Pooran managed to escape, Akhilesh was surrounded and assaulted repeatedly. The trio then fled into the jungle. Akhilesh was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Court's Verdict
The court found the three accused guilty of murder and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Additionally, each convict was fined Rs 5,000. The verdict underscores the severe consequences of disputes over basic resources like water.
