Law Graduate with Extensive Criminal Record Arrested for Bomb Threats Across Bihar and Jharkhand

In a significant development, Srinivas Lewis, a 47-year-old law graduate, was arrested on Monday for allegedly issuing bomb threats targeting the Patna civil court, Patna high court, and other judicial institutions across Bihar and Jharkhand. The threats also extended to airports, educational facilities, and trains, causing widespread alarm.

The accused was apprehended by the Delhi Cyber Police from Mysore Vrindavan Layout in Karnataka. Officials revealed that Lewis has a staggering 50 criminal cases registered against him in Patna and various other locations throughout Bihar, highlighting a long history of alleged unlawful activities.

Police Investigation and Interrogation Plans

Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma stated that a specialized team comprising an inspector and two sub-inspectors has been dispatched to Delhi to conduct interrogations related to all cases involving the accused. Details of Threats and Motive

Regarding the bomb threats in Patna, SSP Sharma reported that a total of 14 similar cases have been filed since last year. "He has accepted his involvement in six of them," the SSP noted, adding that further details would emerge during ongoing interrogations for the remaining incidents. When questioned about motives, Lewis cited vague issues related to studies and a lawyer, along with a few other reasons, but authorities have not yet identified a credible or specific motive behind the threats.

Pattern of Hoax Threats in Patna Courts

Patna courts have faced a recurring pattern of hoax bomb threats in recent months, severely disrupting judicial operations. The Patna civil court alone has received multiple email threats since January 2026, leading to evacuations and halted proceedings. Over the past year, the court premises have been targeted at least eight times, instilling fear among judges, lawyers, litigants, and staff. Similar incidents have also been reported in other district courts across the region, underscoring a persistent security challenge.
