According to preliminary investigations shared by Phillaur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bharat Masih Ladhar, the dispute quickly escalated, resulting in the firing of three gunshots.
Two bullets struck the migrant labourer, identified as Manoj, causing fatal injuries that led to his immediate death on the spot. The third shot was reportedly fired into the air during the confrontation.

The police revealed that the deceased, Manoj, had been employed as a labourer at the residence of a local farmer, Jaspreet Singh Jassa. The two individuals were allegedly involved in a dispute over a small financial transaction, which soon turned into a physical confrontation.
As the argument intensified, both parties moved from the roadside into a nearby tractor workshop while continuing to fight. Inside the workshop, Manoj reportedly attempted to attack Jaspreet with an iron rod. In response, Jaspreet allegedly pulled out his licensed revolver and opened fire, with two bullets hitting Manoj and causing his death.
