A tragic hit-and-run incident on a village road in Sanand has claimed the life of a young labourer, leaving a family devastated and police scrambling to find the responsible driver. The accident occurred late on Friday night, highlighting the dangers on rural roads.
Victim Was Walking Home From Work
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the victim's younger brother, Raju Gautam (20), the fatal collision took place around 11 pm on Friday on the Rupavati-Bol village road. The deceased, identified as Deshraj Gautam (32), was a resident of Rasulpara village in Sanand and originally hailed from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Deshraj was walking on the road when an unknown vehicle, allegedly at high speed, struck him. He had been doing odd jobs at various units in the Sanand GIDC area for the past 10 days to support his family through daily wage work.
Family's Anxious Search Ends in Tragedy
The family's ordeal began when Deshraj did not return to their rented room in Rasulpara on Thursday night. He had left between 5 pm and 6 pm, stating he was going for work. As the night progressed without any sign of him, anxiety grew.
"Later in the night, my mother received a call from an unknown person who said my brother had met with an accident," Raju stated in his police complaint. He immediately searched the area until midnight but could not locate Deshraj.
The grim news was confirmed on Friday morning when a supervisor from the company informed the family that Deshraj had died. The post-mortem at Sanand government hospital revealed the severity of the impact, with serious injuries noted on his left leg, left side of the waist, and forehead.
Police Launch Manhunt for Unidentified Driver
The Sanand police have registered a case against an unidentified vehicle driver under sections for causing death by negligence and for a hit-and-run. "We have registered a case of causing death by negligence and hit-and-run," confirmed a Sanand police officer.
Preliminary findings strongly suggest the victim was knocked down by a speeding vehicle. As the primary line of investigation, officers are now meticulously scanning CCTV footage from nearby roads in an effort to identify the vehicle and trace the accused driver.
The case underscores the persistent issue of road safety and hit-and-run accidents, leaving another migrant worker's family to mourn an untimely and devastating loss.
