Anger erupted in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday as villagers blocked roads demanding justice, a day after a young man was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight. The fatal attack, police confirmed, stemmed from a dispute over a photograph posted on social media.
Social Media Photograph Triggers Fatal Confrontation
According to Superintendent of Police Keshav Kumar, the preliminary investigation points to a romantic relationship as the root cause of the violence. The victim, 20-year-old Nishant Singh from Kushinagar, was a friend of a young man who was in a relationship with the sister of one of the accused. The trouble began when a photograph of the couple was shared on social media, which allegedly angered the woman's family.
The dispute quickly escalated beyond arguments. On Wednesday, when Nishant Singh was on his way to Kasya market near Judwania village to buy household items, he was intercepted by two men. The accused, identified as Naushad (23) and Faisal (21), allegedly attacked Nishant with knives.
Broad Daylight Attack Leaves Youth Dead
The First Information Report (FIR), lodged based on the complaint by the victim's father, details a gruesome assault. Naushad and Faisal are accused of inflicting multiple stab wounds to Nishant's neck, chest, and abdomen. The attack was so severe that he died on the spot before any medical help could reach him.
A friend who was accompanying Nishant tried to intervene and save him but was also assaulted by the attackers. Local residents who witnessed the scene or heard the commotion rushed both young men to the district hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared Nishant Singh dead on arrival.
Public Outrage and Police Action
The shocking murder in broad daylight provoked immediate and intense anger in the local community. On Thursday, angry villagers blocked roads in protest, demanding strict and swift action against the perpetrators. They expressed frustration over such violent incidents and called for greater police vigilance.
Responding to the public pressure and based on their investigation, the police moved quickly. Both accused, Naushad and Faisal, were arrested and have been formally charged with the murder. Police authorities have assured the public that the legal process will be followed rigorously.
This tragic incident highlights how personal disputes, amplified by social media, can rapidly turn violent with deadly consequences. It has also reignited discussions about public safety and the promptness of police response in rural and semi-urban areas of Uttar Pradesh.
