Kottur Triple Murder: Bodies Exhumed from Pit in Accused's House
In a shocking development in Kottur town of Vijayanagara district, police on Saturday afternoon recovered the bodies of three family members from a pit dug inside the accused's residence. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Akshay Kumar, dug a 4-foot-deep pit in the hall of his house. He then allegedly buried the bodies of his mother Jayalakshmi, sister Amrutha, and father Bhimraj in that specific order. After placing the bodies, he covered the pit with tiles in an attempt to conceal his horrific act. The murders are suspected to have occurred on January 26, though the exact timeline is still under investigation.
Police Investigation and Exhumation
After Akshay Kumar was brought back from Bengaluru on Saturday, authorities conducted the exhumation process in the presence of key officials. The assistant commissioner, Tilaknagar police inspector, and Vijayanagara SP S Jahnavi all oversaw the operation. The bodies have since been sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.
Suspicious Behavior Leads to Confession
Addressing reporters at the scene, SP S Jahnavi revealed that a case had already been registered at Tilaknagar police station in Bengaluru. This registration occurred after the accused himself filed a missing-persons complaint, ostensibly seeking help to trace his family members. "Tilaknagar police grew suspicious of Akshay's behavior during questioning, following which he confessed to the murders," the SP stated, highlighting how the investigation unfolded.
