Kota man dies trying to stop neighbour fight

A tragic incident unfolded in Kota on Friday when a 60-year-old man lost his life after attempting to mediate a heated argument between his neighbours. The event has sent shockwaves through the local community in Teachers' Colony under the Mahaveer Nagar police station area.

Details of the Fatal Intervention

The deceased has been identified as Anil Goutam. According to his son, Deepanshu Goutam, the incident occurred around 10 AM. Upon hearing a loud commotion from the neighbourhood, Anil Goutam, followed by his wife, went outside to pacify a quarrel that had broken out between two men identified as Kamlesh Rathore and Lalit Rathore.

In a horrifying turn of events, when Anil Goutam intervened to separate the two, they allegedly turned on him and thrashed him. The assault caused the elderly man to collapse unconscious on the spot. He was immediately rushed to the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) for urgent medical attention.

Family's Anguish and Police Response

Despite efforts by doctors at NMCH, Anil Goutam was declared dead after examination. Grief-stricken and enraged, the family members of the deceased staged a dharna (protest) on the hospital premises. They demanded that the police register a case of murder against the two neighbours, Kamlesh Rathore and Lalit Rathore.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manish Sharma of Mahaveer Nagar police station addressed the media. He confirmed that the body had been placed in the mortuary and that a postmortem examination would be conducted on Saturday. The police had to pacify the angry family members who were insisting on a murder case.

DSP Sharma noted a critical detail: preliminary observation indicated the man's body bore no visible marks of thrashing. However, acting on the family's complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) to initiate a thorough investigation.

Investigation Awaits Postmortem Report

The police have stated that the actual cause of Anil Goutam's death will be ascertained based on the findings of the postmortem report. The investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will be determined solely on the basis of the medical evidence and the probe's conclusions.

This unfortunate event highlights the dangers that can arise from public altercations and has left the Teachers' Colony community in Kota in a state of mourning and tension.
