Kolkata Man Held for Attempted Murder of Wife and Friend in Alcohol-Fueled Dispute
In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a man from Kolkata was arrested on Monday for attempting to murder his wife and injuring a friend during a violent altercation. The accused, identified as Amit Sardar, was taken into custody from the Haridevpur area following a complaint lodged by the victims.
Violent Attack with Razor Leaves Wife Seriously Injured
The incident occurred on January 28, when Sardar allegedly attacked his wife, Mousumi Das, by slashing her neck with a razor. Das, who works as a caregiver, sustained serious injuries in the assault and is currently undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital. Her condition remains critical but stable under medical supervision.
According to police reports, Sardar also attempted to harm himself in a failed suicide attempt during the same episode, adding a tragic dimension to the violent outburst.
Friend Injured While Trying to Stop the Assault
The violence escalated when Priya Halder, a 29-year-old friend of the couple and a witness to the incident, tried to intervene and stop the attack. In the process, Halder suffered a deep injury to her palm, requiring immediate medical attention. She later filed the official police complaint that led to Sardar's arrest.
Investigators have confirmed that the weapon used in the attack has been seized as evidence, and forensic examination is underway to gather additional details about the crime.
