A security guard was arrested in Kolkata for allegedly molesting a woman who was returning home from work late on Christmas night. The incident, which has sparked outrage, occurred in the Survey Park area and led to a dramatic chase by the victim and local residents.
Chilling Details of the Christmas Night Assault
The disturbing event took place around 11:30 PM on Thursday, December 25. The victim, an employee at a food court outlet inside a shopping mall on EM Bypass, was walking home after her late shift. As she passed by the Satyajit Ray Metro station, the accused, identified as Satya Halder, began to follow her.
According to police reports, Halder, who appeared to be intoxicated, allegedly tried to forcibly kiss the woman. When she resisted his advances, a physical struggle ensued. The assailant then grabbed her by the throat, pinned her against a roadside pipe, and continued the assault. In a further horrifying act, he attempted to push her into a drain when she tried to break free from his grip.
Community Intervention and Dramatic Chase
The woman's screams for help pierced the night, alerting residents in the vicinity. Several locals rushed to the scene upon hearing her distress calls. Police stated that Halder initially tried to mislead the gathering crowd by falsely claiming the woman was his girlfriend and labeling the incident a ‘personal matter’.
However, the brave victim managed to free herself and immediately clarified to the locals that she did not know the man at all. She urged them to stop him from escaping. This prompted a collective effort, with the woman and the group of locals chasing the accused for approximately 300 metres before they could finally overpower him.

The accused, Satya Halder, was reportedly attempting to board a train to flee when the locals caught him. Personnel from the Survey Park police station, alerted by witnesses, arrived at the location shortly after and took the accused into custody. He now faces serious charges for his actions.
