The first accident took place around 8:35 am near the Hyatt Crossing on the EM Bypass. Sagnik Dutta, a 21-year-old resident of Nimta, was riding a two-wheeler with his 49-year-old father when he reportedly lost control of the bike. According to police, it appears that Sagnik suddenly applied the brakes, causing the vehicle to skid. However, authorities are not entirely clear about the exact sequence of events, as no CCTV footage clearly captured the accident.
Both individuals were rushed to Apollo Hospital, where Sagnik was declared dead due to multiple injuries, including severe damage to internal organs. His father sustained injuries to his right hand and shoulders and is in critical condition. Police noted that the survivor is experiencing severe trauma after losing his son and requires time to recover before providing a statement.
Second Accident: Army Truck Skids, Causes Major Disruption
In a separate incident, an Army truck traveling on the Maa Flyover towards Park Circus skidded in the rain near the Boat Club around 6:30 am. The vehicle jumped the road divider and came to a stop in the opposite lane. The driver received injuries in the accident, but no other casualties were reported.
The flyover had to be shut down for over 35 minutes as authorities worked to tow the truck to Seven Point Crossing at Park Circus. This closure led to significant traffic delays, with detours implemented that particularly affected students. An officer from the Tiljala Traffic Guard explained that the rainy weather had already slowed traffic, and the shutdown of the Maa Flyover created additional challenges for students trying to reach their schools, especially as the final exam season has begun.
