A tragic road accident in Jharkhand's Koderma district on Sunday resulted in the death of one woman and left four others, including an eight-year-old child, with serious injuries. The incident occurred when a car, heading to Bihar from Ranchi, reportedly lost control and overturned, hitting a group of people standing by the roadside in the Koderma Ghati area.
Details of the Koderma Ghati Tragedy
The deceased victim has been identified as Sunita Devi (45), a resident of Gopalpur, Dibour. The four individuals who sustained serious injuries are all from the same locality. They are Renuka Devi (32), Lachhwa Devi (32), Kanti Devi (30), and eight-year-old Dulari Kumari. According to police reports, the group was waiting for transportation to return home after collecting wood from a nearby forest when the speeding car veered off the road and struck them.
The injured were immediately rushed to the Sadar Hospital in Koderma for urgent medical treatment. The condition of the child, Dulari Kumari, is reported to be particularly serious alongside the three adult women.
Cause of Accident: Mentally Unstable Passenger's Sudden Action
Vikas Paswan, the officer in-charge of Koderma police station, provided crucial details about the cause of the crash. He stated that the car's loss of control was triggered by a mentally unstable individual who was inside the vehicle. The man was being taken to Bihar by his family after receiving treatment in Ranchi.
"He jumped out of the car all of a sudden, after which the driver lost control of the vehicle," explained Paswan. Remarkably, none of the occupants of the car sustained injuries in the subsequent rollover and collision. The police have detained all the car occupants and are awaiting the arrival of their family members in Koderma. The vehicle involved has also been seized by the authorities.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
The local police have launched a full investigation into the Ranchi-Patna road accident. While the primary cause is attributed to the sudden action of the passenger, officials are examining other potential factors like road conditions and driver's response. The detained individuals are being questioned to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to this fatal incident on the busy highway.
This tragic event highlights the persistent dangers on Indian highways and the devastating consequences of sudden driver distractions. The community of Gopalpur, Dibour, is mourning the loss of Sunita Devi while praying for the recovery of the injured, especially the young child.
