Khanna Police Crack Down on Illegal Weapons, Arrest Six in Two Separate Operations
In a significant crackdown on illegal arms, the Khanna police have successfully arrested six individuals and recovered three illegal firearms along with a substantial cache of cartridges from their possession. The arrests were made in two distinct cases, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb weapon-related crimes in the region.
First Case: GT Road Interception Leads to Arrest of Four
In the first incident, registered at the Khanna City-2 police station, officers conducted a routine check on GT Road, where they stopped a black Scorpio vehicle on suspicion. Upon spotting the police, the four youths traveling in the vehicle allegedly attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by the alert officers.
During the subsequent investigation, police uncovered that one of the accused, Zorawar Singh, had recently been released from jail after serving nearly a decade in a murder case. Authorities stated that Zorawar Singh allegedly kept illegal weapons due to fear of retaliation from his rival group, citing protection from the complainant party in the previous murder case as a motive.
The other individuals arrested in this case have been identified as Jobanjeet Singh, Akashdeep Singh, and Harpreet Singh. Police emphasized that all accused have multiple previous cases registered against them under serious charges, including murder, robbery, the Arms Act, and the NDPS Act.
Second Case: Machhiwara Police Nab Two More in Separate Operation
In a separate operation, Machhiwara police arrested a youth identified as Rahul Sharma during a checking drive. From his possession, officers recovered a .32 bore pistol along with a magazine. During interrogation, Rahul disclosed that he had befriended Gurpreet Singh, alias Gumma, while both were lodged in jail, and had kept the weapon at Gurpreet's instance.
Following this revelation, police produced Gurpreet Singh on a production warrant and arrested him as well. This arrest further underscores the network of illegal activities linked to previous incarcerations.
Recovery Details and Ongoing Investigations
During the recovery operations, police seized one country-made .32 bore pistol along with five live cartridges, and another .30 bore pistol with 13 live cartridges. The total haul includes three illegal firearms and a significant number of cartridges, posing a serious threat to public safety.
Police investigations have revealed that the accused individuals have a history of involvement in serious criminal activities, with multiple cases registered against them. The authorities are continuing their probe to uncover any further connections or illegal networks.
This operation marks a crucial step in the Khanna police's efforts to combat illegal arms trafficking and ensure law and order in the Ludhiana region. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities to help maintain community safety.
