Kerala High Court Honors Justice V G Arun with Full Court Farewell Reference

The Kerala High Court in Kochi organized a solemn full court reference on Friday to bid a formal farewell to Justice V G Arun, marking his retirement from judicial service. The event was presided over by Justice A K Jayasankaran Nambiar, the second senior-most judge of the high court, who oversaw the proceedings with dignity and respect.

Speeches and Tributes at the Farewell Function

During the function, Advocate General K Gopalakrishna Kurup and Kerala High Court Advocates' Association president Peeyus A Kottam delivered heartfelt speeches, praising Justice Arun's contributions to the judiciary. They highlighted his integrity, dedication, and the significant impact of his work over the years.

In his farewell address, Justice Arun expressed deep appreciation for the legal community in Kerala. He remarked that the Kerala High Court boasts an erudite and scholarly Bar, which he considers on par with or even superior to that of other high courts across India. This acknowledgment underscored the high standards of legal practice in the state.

Justice Arun's Call for Gender Diversity in the Judiciary

Justice Arun also voiced a critical concern regarding gender representation in the judiciary. He noted that despite the presence of many outstanding women lawyers in Kerala, their representation on the bench remains minuscule. Expressing hope for positive change, he emphasized the need for greater inclusivity and diversity in judicial appointments to reflect the broader society.

Background and Career of Justice V G Arun

Justice V G Arun was born in 1964 to the late T K G Nair, an eminent journalist, and the late Sulochana G Nair. His educational journey began with a degree in Economics from Baselios College in Kottayam, followed by a law degree from the Kerala Law Academy in Thiruvananthapuram.
