In a shocking case from Kerala, a man's desperate attempt to win back his former girlfriend by staging a dramatic rescue after a fabricated accident has led to his arrest. The police in Pathanamthitta district have uncovered a bizarre plot where a hit-and-run was orchestrated to create a scenario for reconciliation.
The Staged Accident and a Calculated Rescue
On December 23, a 21-year-old college student was riding her scooter in Vazhamuttom East when a hatchback hit her vehicle, causing her to fall. As per the police investigation, the crash was not an accident but a carefully planned act. The man behind the scheme was identified as Ranjith Raja (24), a native of Mamood in Pathanamthitta, who works on a ship. He allegedly executed the plan with his friend, Ajas (19).
As a crowd gathered around the injured woman, Ranjith arrived at the spot in a blue SUV, posing as a concerned bystander. He promptly took the victim to a hospital and later dropped her home, playing the role of her rescuer. A case of road accident was initially registered that evening.
How the Police Unraveled the Plot
The investigation, led by Sub-Inspector Shiju P. Sam, took a dramatic turn when the woman revealed in her statement that she knew her rescuer as her former lover. "That revelation gave the first twist," said SI Shiju P. Sam. The police then examined CCTV footage from the area and spoke to locals.
Their inquiries revealed that Ranjith had told people at the scene that he was the husband of the accident victim, further raising suspicions. This inconsistent behavior led the police to track him down. The probe exposed that Ranjith had chosen the location knowing it was the victim's daily route. The car used to hit the woman has also been traced by the authorities.
From Rescue Plan to Attempted Murder Charges
The arrests of Ranjith Raja and Ajas were made earlier this week. What began as a case registered as a simple road accident has now transformed into a serious criminal investigation. The police allege that the duo planned the hit-and-run after the woman recently broke up with Ranjith.
His plan to injure her and then swoop in as a hero to care for her, hoping to patch up the broken relationship, has completely backfired. The charges are now severe, moving far beyond a misguided romantic gesture to what law enforcement is treating as a premeditated criminal act.
This incident highlights a dangerous and criminal approach to relationship disputes, leading to serious legal consequences for the perpetrators.
