Keonjhar Constable Accused of Harassment, Forced Abortions, and Attempted Murder
Keonjhar Cop Accused of Harassing Wife, Forcing Abortions

A serious case of alleged domestic violence and police misconduct has surfaced in Keonjhar, Odisha, where a police constable stands accused of horrific acts against his own wife. The victim, Subhashini Mahakud, has filed a formal complaint detailing a prolonged period of abuse, including forced medical procedures and attempts on her life.

Chilling Allegations of Abuse and Coercion

In her complaint lodged on Tuesday, Subhashini Mahakud, wife of constable Himanshu Naik posted at the Keonjhar district police office, made a series of grave accusations. She alleged that her husband forced her to undergo five abortions against her will. The abuse reportedly turned physically violent during one pregnancy, where she claims Naik kicked her in the stomach, leading to a miscarriage.

The situation escalated to life-threatening levels on November 29, 2025. Subhashini stated that when her husband tried to kill her, she managed to call the emergency number 112. Police personnel responded to the distress call and rescued her from the immediate danger.

Threats, Illegal Confinement, and Alleged Police Bias

Beyond physical violence, the complaint outlines a pattern of psychological torment. Subhashini alleged that Naik had taken obscene photos and videos of her without consent. She further claimed he threatened to release this private material on social media whenever she confronted him about his actions.

The alleged abuse continued into the new year. On January 1, Subhashini accused her husband of detaining her inside their house in Mandua, locking the door, and attempting to assault her. Based on her detailed complaint, a formal case has been registered at the Keonjhar Town police station.

Frustrated with the pace of the investigation, Subhashini took her grievances higher. She directly approached the Keonjhar Superintendent of Police (SP), alleging that the local police were showing favoritism towards her husband and deliberately delaying his arrest. She appealed to the SP for strict action and to ensure she receives justice.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

When contacted for comment, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Town police station, Srikanta Sahu, confirmed the procedural steps taken. "A case was registered on Monday. As per the legal process, the accused was served notice and released on bail. The investigation into the matter is currently underway," Sahu stated.

This case has raised significant questions about accountability within the police force and the mechanisms for protecting victims of domestic violence, especially when the accused is a law enforcement officer. The community and observers await the outcome of the investigation to see if justice will be served.
