In a significant breakthrough, the Karnal police in Haryana have successfully cracked a high-value robbery case involving gold worth over Rs 2 crore and cash. The police have arrested four individuals, including an employee of a local jeweller, and recovered the stolen precious metal.
The Heist and Swift Police Action
The audacious robbery took place on January 3, 2026. Two agents of bullion firms, who had come to supply raw gold material in Karnal, were targeted. As they were returning home after work in Sarrafa Bazaar, they were attacked near the Community Centre in Sector-16. A group of three to four unidentified persons looted the gold and cash they were carrying before fleeing the scene.
Following a complaint lodged by Baban Govind Mani, a case was registered at Police Station City Karnal. Given the gravity of the crime, Karnal SP immediately formed joint investigation teams. These teams were led by Crime Investigation Branch-1 Incharge Inspector Sandeep Kumar and Crime Investigation Branch-3 Incharge Inspector Ajay.
Arrests and Major Recovery
The police teams acted swiftly and managed to apprehend all four accused involved in the crime. The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Prince, son of Satpal, a resident of Sector-6, Karnal.
- Dinesh, son of Joginder, from Naiyon Wala Mohalla, Karnal.
- Praveen Kumar Gurjar, son of Narsingh, from Rajpura in Ambala district.
- Prateek, son of Tilak Raj, from Sonia Colony, Ambala Cantt.
Prince and Dinesh were arrested from the Sector-4 area in Karnal, while Praveen and Prateek were nabbed from the Ambala district area.
From the possession of the accused, the police made a crucial recovery. They seized 1240 grams of the looted gold, Rs 2 lakh in cash, and an Activa scooter used in the commission of the crime. Given that raw gold is valued at approximately Rs 1.40 lakh per 10 grams, the recovered gold alone is worth over Rs 2 crore.
Inside Job and Ongoing Probe
During preliminary interrogation, a startling revelation came to light. Dinesh and Prince, who were employed at a jeweller's shop in Sarrafa Bazaar, are alleged to have used their insider knowledge to plan the robbery. The police stated that the duo conducted reconnaissance on the bullion agents and then executed the loot with their accomplices.
DSP Rajiv Kumar provided these details in a press conference, highlighting the meticulous planning by the accused. The police are continuing their investigation for a thorough probe into the case to uncover any further links or details.
This crackdown by the Karnal police underscores their effectiveness in tackling serious organised crime and brings relief to the local business community dealing in precious metals.
